A crossover between fashion and hyperrealistic art by Maudy Alferink

3 min

About
Born in a small farmers town in the Netherlands a little girl was soon to be seen an extravagant personality. Her parents gave her all the space in the world to be creative by letting her draw, paint and make crazy clothes and accessories for everybody in her family. Maudy Alferink is an autodidact pur sang and has her roots in the fashion industry. This influence is clearly reflected in her realistic works. After years of working in fashion, her life was transformed by a serious car accident in London in 2014. During her rehabilitation in 2014 she started painting. She mainly creates hyperrealistic art works of flamboyant contemporary models. Most of her work contain 3D mixed media elements.

'Inspired by contemporary fashion and society, she translates her message through her impressive realistic paintings.'

The passion for styling and colours became professional when Maudy studied presentation and communication followed up by fashion styling at the Styling academy Artemis in Amsterdam. During the academy she started her own clothing label and participated in the tv show ‘Hollands best fashion designers’ in 2010. Everything was going as planned until she was involved in a severe car accident. Nothing was going to be the same again. From this moment on she traded the fashion world for physical and neurological rehab. Due to her positive spirit she insisted in staying creative. Because of the temporary wheelchair painting was a good option. She never planned to make it her profession but her talent and willpower gave her new life a boost in a way that nobody expected. Within three years her realistic fashionable paintings and prints were selling worldwide.
