Jenn Aan Het Werk

Jennifer graduated in 2009 as a graphic designer from the Royal Academy of Art The Hague (The Netherlands). Before she graduated she also completed two other creative courses: Graphic Lyceum in Amsterdam and Nimento in Utrecht. As a child she was mainly interested in creative subjects. During her time at the academy she was doing a lot of illustrating and painting in addition to graphic design. Her graphic work exudes functionality, simplicity and tranquility, and in her paintings you can see that color and graphic surfaces predominate. From 2011 on she started working on a series of paintings called GRID. It started with a work which was initially an experiment. It was a canvas on which lines were drawn with pencil until a grid was created. She wanted to create depth through different color surfaces.

The canvas became the basis of the series of paintings called GRID. She was inspired by color palettes and color combinations she encounters everywhere. She takes the form and proportions from parts of the 'base grid' to create a new image with. In addition, aerial photographs of the earth inspire her enormously. Especially images from the world above in which you find various structures. This could for example be an aerial picture of the Netherlands on which many farmlands and residential areas can be seen. It is mainly about the pattern that can be discovered in those pictures.. Or it could just be a no man's land where many lakes or other repeated patterns in the landscape can be seen.
