Ad Verberk

His unique compositions with ceramics in the Art Deco style are characterized by clean lines and bright colors. In contrast to his landscapes, which are often painted outside, his still lifes are finely worked out in the studio.

Ad Verberk

As a youngster in high school he always used to sketch and draw a lot, but his first oil paintings emerged in the early 80’s. He started painting in the style of Realism. The work from his early period mainly consists out of local landscapes and colourful still lifes of flowers. In the mid-eighties he was gripped by the tough working life in Brabant which he reflected in his work. In a smooth impressionistic style he painted hard working men, farms, orchards and moorland. In this period he also started painting many series of gnarled pollard willows in different styles. His many landscape paintings are diverse and cover all seasons, he especially has a predilection for the winter landscape.

Verberk also painted in the style of the Surrealism. Nowadays he mainly focuses on painting still lifes. His unique compositions with ceramics in the Art Deco style

are characterized by clean lines and bright colours. Unlike his landscapes, which are often painted outdoors, he creates his still lifes in his atelier. When Verberk makes a painting, this often begins with a sketch on paper. He then transfers the sketch to panel or canvas and then starts to build his underpainting in shades of gray. Then he lets the underpainting dry thoroughly and then glazes the work with transparent layers of paint, which acquire those deep and vivid colours.
