Brigitte Bardot was at the top of Saskia's portrait list. For many, the most beautiful and sensual woman of the last century. In her youth she was especially known as a sex symbol, but at a later age a pronounced lady who has manifested herself as an animal rights activist, always ready to give her controversial and honest opinion. Saskia has made a series of actors and actresses in which she has tried to demonstrate the various experiences of beauty. On the one hand, the actresses, form the generally existing ideal of symmetrical faces and youthfulness. On the other hand, the appeal of characterful and experience-drawn faces, of the actors. Often the beauty is in someone's appearance, perhaps the more tangible representation of someone's character. This is reflected in almost all her portraits.

Work method
Instead of a normal linen cloth, I stretched brocade fabric with a Jacquard motif. I then impregnated this fabric with white gesso, this is the bottom layer on which you make a painting. The first draft is in pencil, followed by a large number of very thin layers of oil paint. Each layer has a drying time of one and a half weeks. Maintaining contrast in a work like this is essential. In this painting no color paint is used, the white which is visible, is the color of the canvas. Very special is the effect of the underlying brocade cloth.

Price of the original work: between €6.000,- and €12.000 (depending on the size and the use of color)

- Exclusive limited edition of 50
