Inspiration
The Sadhu (a man who is dedicated to the source of life) is in North India in the Himalayas. He is witnessing a centuries-old ritual. Known in India as "the Abishekam". In the foreground is a stone Lingam from which spontaneously the living giving water flows. The potential seed of Creation finds its way in the Yoni pictured as the stone scale. In this nursery the world of phenomena is born. The world of form. The monkey in the tree stands for the mind. The ape (the spirit) has focused its attention on the source of creation. The sadhu simultaneously recognizes the origin of Creation whereby the ecstasy of life flows through him. In the mountains in the background the viewer recognizes a glacier where a new river has its origin. In India, every origin of a river is sacred because it gives life to Creation. Nature spontaneously shows the holy ritual of the Abyssekam. Ecstasy, opposites and Peace appear to be connected to each other.

Work method
This time-consuming technique originally comes from the Renaissance period. Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli made use of this painting method. Recent artists adapted it somewhat, in accordance with today's consumables, but the principle has remained the same. The shape is determined by the play of light and dark, and with this fact I start on a gray pre-worked panel, the form with Omber natural and Titanium white to put down. In the mid-tone the gray background still continues to do its job. After this underpainting has cured sufficiently, the colors are transparent (glaze) to semi-transparent. The light is increased in layers This is often repeated several times, creating a mystical depth in the painting and starting to live strongly with the right lighting. After all, the light is reflected back in certain gradations through the layer of color via the underlayer, which gives an extra dimension to the work.

Meet Paul Jaarsma

Paul Jaarsma

After traveling over 35.000 km through the whole continent of Africa Jaarsma realized that respect forms the backbone for people who live in harmony with nature. Nature shows that in all its beauty. It is his wish to give shape to this awareness and transfer it to others.

'The images which flow from his brushes are timeless in essence, but in terms of image, they may be history soon.'
